4000 m2 of space
The present accomodation of Duende was originally an institute of professional training for technical education. Thousands of rotterdam’s citizen were trained here, becoming carpenters, bricklayers, motor mechanics, and a great number of other technical professions.
This is why the building of 1920 has a large number of studios with very attractive sizes for artists. For example, some studios are 160 m2, these mostly being situated on the groundfloor and on either side of the large corridor between the south- and northwings. Also, there are, what used to be, the classrooms in the two wings which also have considerable sizes: the height of about 5 metres gives the present users good possibilities for building extra floors and ceilings. Our building accomodates 43 studios and some smaller units; together an area of 4000 m2.
